FAQs

  • There is not a one size fits all approach to therapy. That is why your initial sessions will be dedicated to creating a personalized treatment plan to fit your unique needs and goals. Additionally, as you travel through your healing journey your therapeutic needs may change. This is why I believe that having an eclectic approach to therapy is important as it allows for a flexible and multifaceted approach that allows for the use of the most effective methods available to address each individual client's needs.

  • At this time, OptiMYzing Resilience does not accept insurance. A Super bill can be provided upon request so that you can submit for reimbursement to your independent insurance company. Depending on your insurance coverage or employee benefit plan, it is possible for services to be covered in full or in part. I’d recommend that you reach out to your provider directly and inquiry about your mental health benefits, any deductibles you may have, or approvals you will need to be reimbursed once provided with a super bill from OptiMYzing Resilience.

  • Please contact me to learn about my current rates.

Therapy represents a significant commitment, and I acknowledge that financial limitations may hinder access to support. I have established a flexible fee structure for eligible individuals, providing scaled session rates. In an effort to make therapy more accessible, I reserve two reduced-fee slots for eight sessions over two months. Specifically for individuals within the BIPOC community facing financial challenges, I allocate one free appointment slot for four sessions over one month. Please contact me to inquire about availability or to be added to the waitlist.

  • There are MANY factors influencing the therapeutic process. It is important to note that the outcomes of therapy cannot be guaranteed. Several variables, including the duration and intensity of symptoms, individual motivation, and the complexity of issues to be addressed, play pivotal roles in shaping the course of treatment. Additionally, the likelihood of achieving desired results is impacted by your commitment to implementing recommendations and strategies learned during sessions. Your personal motivation and dedication to follow through with therapeutic guidance are integral factors that contribute significantly to the overall effectiveness of the treatment. Therefore, while therapy provides valuable tools and insights, the realization of specific outcomes is contingent upon the collaborative efforts of both the individual and the therapeutic process. Remember healing is not a linear process it takes time, motivation, dedication and the willingness to get uncomfortable.

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) , and Brainspotting are types of brain- based therapies that have been developed to treat a range of mental health conditions, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, and addiction. ART & EMDR use eye movements to facilitate the processing of traumatic memories and emotions. EMDR uses other bilateral stimulation as well.

    What is Brainspotting?

Brainspotting was discovered by David Grand, growing out of his EMDR work and training in other modalities as well.

Here’s how it works: The therapist and client work together to find the “brainspot” or eye position that corresponds with a specific emotional response or incident. Once on that “target,” the therapist instructs the client to “let their brain take them wherever it takes them” which allows the brain to make any connections needed to process a particular event. The therapist provides minimal interruptions.

Here are some difference between ART & EMDR & Brainspotting (BSP):

    • ART uses a specific number of eye movements, EMDR the number of eye movements can vary, and BSP involves finding a “brainspot” or eye position.

    • EMDR focuses on negative beliefs associated with content, ART is concentrate on emotions and sensations associated with images, and BSP focuses on concentrating on the problem/event topic, identifying how you feel and experience the issue in your mind and body

    • ART is a more directed approach focused on the image “scene” you are working on, and both EMDR & Brainspotting is more adaptable .

    • EMDR tends to be a longer process as there are 8-phases that need to be completed, whereas ART & Brainspotting can be completed within 1-5 sessions.

In certain instances, ART , EMDR and even Brainspotting may be more appropriate for a client vs the other. For clients who may not experience favorable results with one method, the option to explore the alternatives exists, providing them with the opportunity to discover significant success through alternative approaches. In many circumstances a EMDR & Brainspotting can be integrated.
